Traumatic Brain Injury is one of the most misunderstood results of traumatic injury. Such injury can occur from any type of mechanism which causes changes to the brain- that two and a half pounds of jello-like material, confined in a bony skull, situated on a bony column surrounded by muscle and tissue. Brain injuries can often occur when the head is moving rapidly, then comes to a quick stop, causing the brain to move forward and strike the front of the cranium (Deceleration injuries). This can occur whether or not the head actually strikes another object. Sometimes neurons, axons, nerve fibers, or blood vessels can be stretched or torn, causing bleeding in the brain. Brain injury can occur due to blows to the head, or the head actually coming into contact with another object. Accident victims with traumatic brain injuries often suffer continuing cognitive, emotional, and other problems. Their symptoms often include headaches; memory problems; attention and concentration problems; personality change; irritability, anger, and frustration; difficulty in organizing tasks, planning, preparing meals, and the like; fatigue or inability to get started; balance or dizziness; difficulty in noisy environments; depression; difficulty in social situations; sleep disorders; vision problems; difficulty reading or concentrating. Unfortunately, in instances of traumatic brain injury, there may be little or no evidence of other physical injury, so sometimes this condition is overlooked. Because of this, sometimes it can be harder for a victim of brain injury to recover fair damages. Proving the cause and effect of a brain injury in the legal system is difficult because there may be no evident physical injuries and normal MRI, CAT, X-Ray results, and normal neurological exams. As a result, someone with a symptoms of a traumatic brain injury should speak with an attorney or law firm with experience in traumatic brain injury and brain damage cases. Such attorney is much more likely to recognize the implications of brain injury, and have the knowledge and skill required to prove the consequences of brain injuries.
